Patrick Duncan - Western Michigan University
The Victoria Generals have announced the signing of Western Michigan University shortstop Patrick Duncan to the 2012 roster. With the signing of Duncan, the Generals now have 18 players on the official roster for the upcoming 2012 season.
“We’re excited with the way our roster is shaping up to this point,” stated Blake Koch, the general manager of the Generals. “Coach Clemons and I are working together to round out the last few spots that we have available.”
Patrick Duncan, a junior at WMU, has started in all 28 games for the Broncos this spring and is currently hitting .324 with eight doubles, two home runs, 22 RBIs, and 26 runs scored.
“We struggled at the shortstop position last summer,” commented Koch. “So we’re glad to a guy like Patrick signed who can fill that need for us.”
Duncan started all but one game at shortstop for WMU as a sophomore. He hit .277 on the season with 11 doubles, 24 RBIs, and 22 runs scored. For his efforts, Duncan was named the team’s Most Valuable Defensive Player.
“Between Patrick and Blake Marchal, who we signed earlier in the spring from Central Arkansas, we should have the shortstop position well covered this season,” Koch said. “We’ve also got guys like Carter Mangum from UTSA and Alex Klonowski from Northern Illinois who can slide over and play there if needed.”
Duncan, a native Texan, played at Lamar High School in Arlington where he was a standout player in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
The Generals home opener is on Sunday, June 3 at 7:05pm at Riverside Stadium against the Acadiana Cane Cutters. Season tickets for all 30 of the Generals home games this season are on sale now.
