The Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League have announced the addition of two new players to their 2012 roster. Infielder Carter Mangum from the University of Texas at San Antonio and right-handed pitcher Keith Brenner from the University of Houston, both freshmen, will take the field for the Generals this summer.
“We've been fortunate to have great players from both UTSA and Houston in the past,” commented Victoria’s general manager, Blake Koch. “We're glad that those programs continue to send us players every year.”
Carter Mangum, a 5’8”, 165 pound infielder, was an all-district performer at Langham Creek High School in Houston. Mangum, a left-handed hitter, is expected to see time at second base this season at UTSA.
“Carter is a good defensive infielder that will most likely play second and third base for us this summer,” said Koch. “He has good speed and handles the bat well.”
Keith Brenner, 6’3”, 225 pound right-handed pitcher from Longview, Texas, will compete for time out of the bullpen this season for the Cougars. Brenner attended Pine Tree High School where he was named to the Class 4A All-State Third-Team as a utility player his senior year by the Texas Sports Writers Association.
“Keith is a big kid that can throw hard,” said Koch. “He should be able to come in this summer and gain some valuable experience while helping us in the starting rotation or out of the bullpen.”
