Ryan Dalton hit his 4th home run of the season on Wednesday night
The Victoria Generals lost 7-3 on Wednesday night to the Brazos Valley Bombers in Bryan in the second-to-last game of the 2011 regular season. The Generals and Bombers are now tied in the standings as the two teams are both vying for the fourth and final playoff spot in the TCL post-season. The Generals and Bombers will play the final game of the regular season on Thursday night in Bryan with the winner of the game clinching the post-season bid. A loss by either team will mark the end of their 2011 season.
With the Bombers leading 2-0 on Wednesday night, the Generals scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 3-2 lead. Ryan Dalton led off the inning with a solo home run to left field. Trace Knoblauch then singled to centerfield and advanced to second on an error by the centerfielder. Trent Wagner bunted a ball back to the pitcher who then made a throwing error allowing Knoblauch to score to tie the game. Wagner advanced to second on the error. Grayson Porter then laid down a bunt single as Wagner advanced to third. John Longoria then hit a ball to right field that was misplayed by the right fielder to allow Wagner to score and give the Generals the lead.
Ethan Carnes left the game in line for the win for the Generals. He pitched six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while walking five and striking out six.
The Bombers were able to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the seventh inning on an error by Generals' shortstop Chad Kruse.
The Bombers then scored four times in the eighth inning off of Generals relief pitcher Roman Madrid. Madrid struggled as he allowed three hits and five walks on the night.
The Generals offense was held at bay against Bombers' starter Jameson Holt. The Generals managed just five hits in the ballgame.
The winner of Thursday night's game will host the East Texas Pump Jacks at their home park on Friday night in game one of the divisional round of the TCL post-season. The Pump Jacks hold the #1 seed after finishing in first place in the first-half of the season. The Pump Jacks will then host games two and three of the series on Saturday and Sunday nights in Kilgore.
