Freddy Villalobos has hit home runs in back-to-back games for the Generals
The Coppell Copperheads completed a two-game series sweep of the Victoria Generals on Thursday night with a 6-2 win. The Generals continue to battle for a playoff position in the TCL postseason as only six games remain on the 2011 regular season schedule.
The Copperheads jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the ballgame after three innings of play. Generals' starting pitcher Ethan Carnes gave up the four runs (only three earned). Carnes went on to pitch six innings on the night, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out four.
The Generals finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning when Cory Hunt scored on an infield single by Freddy Villalobos
The Copperheads would add a run in the seventh and the ninth to make the score 6-1.
Villalobos hit his second home run in as many nights in the bottom of the ninth, giving him five on the season, but that was all of the scoring the Generals could produce in the inning.
The Generals offense was held at bay by Doug Ashby who picked up the win for the Copperheads. The Generals were held to just five hits on the night, two of which were by Chad Kruse. Kruse now has 71 hits on the season and is just four hits shy of the breaking the TCL league record which was set back in 2004 by Erik Lis.
The Generals fell to 25-28 on the season and 13-11 in the second-half. The Copperheads are now 30-22 overall and 14-8 in the second-half.
The Generals travel to Alexandria on Friday to take on the Aces in a two-game series. The Generals then return home on Monday for a two-game set with the Aces at Riverside Stadium. Monday and Tuesday night's games both start at 7:05pm. The Generals then finish the regular season on the road with a two-game set with the Brazos Valley Bombers.
