Grayson Porter hit his first home run of the season on Tuesday night
With the score tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the 12th inning, Brazos Valley Bombers' relief pitcher Jake Moser walked to first two batters he faced in the inning. With one out, Victoria Generals' second baseman Cory Hunt hit a chopper to the second baseman who flipped the ball to the shortstop to try to turn a double play. The shortstop dropped the ball and Kevin Phillips, who was on second base after the lead off walk, never stopped running and rounded third and scored to give the Generals a 6-5 walk-off win.
It was a fitting way for the game to end for the Generals, as they blew an opportunity to win the game in the ninth inning on an error by shortstop Michael McGraw. With the Game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Grayson Porter launched his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left field to give the Generals the 5-4 advantage. Generals' closer Covey Morrow entered into the game to try to notch the save, but after allowing a single and a sac bunt, McGraw let a ground ball sneak under his glove which allowed the Bombers to tie the game.
The Generals jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after two innings of play. In the first inning, Chad Kruse scored on an RBI single by John Longoria. In the second, Freddy Villalobos drove in Porter and Clay Cunningham on a two-run single.
Back-to-back errors cost the Generals in the third inning as they allowed the Bombers to tie the game at 3-3.
The Generals retook the lead in the sixth inning on an error by the Bombers shortstop which allowed Cunningham to score.
Michael Oros had a great outing for the Generals on the night, but did not factor in the decision. Oros pitched seven innings without allowing an earned run. He gave up just four hits and struck out six.
Jordan Harrison picked up the win for the Generals pitching two innings and allowing just two hits while striking out two.
The Generals improved to 25-26 overall and 13-9 in the second-half. The Bombers fell to 23-28 overall and 8-14 in the second-half.
The Generals will begin a two-game series with the Coppell Copperheads on Wednesday night at Riverside Stadium in Victoria. It will be Margarita Wednesday at the game. $3 margaritas will be available all game long on the Buffalo Wild Wings Part Deck. Game time is 7:05pm.
