Brad Shankle collected 3 hits on Friday night for the Generals
The Victoria Generals dropped their third game in a row with a 6-3 loss to the Coppell Copperheads on Friday night.
The Generals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Chad Kruse grounded into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded to score Michael McGraw.
The Copperheads answered with three runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth off of Generals starter Sam Hansen. Hansen took the loss, pitching six innings on the night, allowing five runs, only two of which were earned, on six hits while walking two and striking out two
The Copperheads scored another run in the seventh to take a 6-1 lead.
In the ninth, the Generals tried to rally, but came up just short. With the bases loaded and one out, Michael McGraw scored his second run of the game on an RBI walk by Jake Runte. After a strike out for the second out of the inning, Freddy Villalobos walked to score Brad Shankle. With the bases still loaded, Ryan Dalton flew out to the shortstop to end the game.
Shankle led the Generals at the plate with three hits on the night.
The Generals fell to 19-23 overall and 7-6 in the second-half. The Copperheads improved to 23-20 overall and 7-6 in the second-half as they moved into second place in the TCL standings.
The Generals and Copperheads will play again on Saturday night in game two of the two-game series. Game time is 7:05pm at Riverside Stadium in Victoria.
