Covey Morrow picked up his 8th save of the season on Tuesday night.
One night after the Coppell Copperheads posted four runs in the first inning and went on to defeat the Victoria Generals 5-1, the Generals turned the tables by scoring four times in the bottom of the first inning on Tuesday night on their way to a 7-4 victory to split the two-game series.
Michael McGraw smacked a two-run double to the left-centerfield gap to score Jake Runte and Chad Kruse to make the score 2-0. One batter later, Trent Wagner lifted an 0-2 breaking ball over the left field fence for a two-run home run to put the Generals out in front 4-0.
The Copperheads cut the lead to 4-3 by scoring two runs in the third inning and one in the fourth off of Generals starting pitcher Tyler Smith. Smith pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out five. Smith struggled with his command all night, walking six batters.
Jordan Harrison came on in relief and threw three strong innings, allowing just one unearned run on three hits. Harrison struck out three batters and picked up his first win of the season for the Generals.
The Generals added single runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. In the sixth, Ryan Dalton blasted his second home run over the season, a solo shot to left field. In the seventh, Cody Abraham doubled, stole third, and scored on an RBI double by Chad Kruse. In the eighth, Wagner scored on an RBI single by Abraham.
Covey Morrow pitched the final inning and a third without allowing a hit or a run to pick up his eighth save of the season.
The Generals improved to 16-19 overall and 4-2 in the second-half. The Copperheads fell to 18-18 and 2-4.
