Jared Hopper pitched two innings of scoreless relief on Monday night
The Coppell Copperheads jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning against the Victoria Generals on Monday night and the Generals were never able to mount a rally to overcome that deficit as they eventually lost 5-1.
The Generals scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning when Jake Runte scored on a wild pitch after walking earlier in the inning.
The Generals offense did not have an answer for Copperheads starting pitcher Travis Ballew. Ballew pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out eight batters.
After giving up four runs in the first inning, Generals starter Blake Denman settled into a groove. Denman allowed five runs on seven hits and struck out eight on the night.
Jared Hopper pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings before Alex Jack posted a zero in the ninth for the Generals as well.
Chad Kruse and Ryan Dalton each had two hits for the Generals.
The Generals fell to 15-19 on the season and 3-2 in the second-half. The Copperheads improved to 18-17 overall and 2-3 in the second-half.
The Copperheads and Generals will meet again on Tuesday night at Riverside Stadium in Victoria at 7:05pm. It will be Free Ticket Tuesday presented by Triumph Hospital-Victoria. All fans will get in for free to the game on Tuesday night thanks to Triumph Hospital.
