RE: Extra Inning Win for the Generals/Pirates take Nudding
(Victoria, Tx) It took extra innings, but the Victoria Generals kept their winning streak intact Friday Night with a 4-3 twelve inning victory.
Andrew Moore (Yale) knocked in the winning run with a double to left center driving in Tyler King (Hill College) who had walked. Moore was also responsible for the Generals first run, as he drove home Joey Kenworthy (Texas Tech) with an infield out.
Blake Ford (Lamar) started for the Generals and threw 5 innings allowing two runs. Michael Oros (San Jacinto) followed for two innings allowing one home to McKinney's Seth Gardner (Arkansas). The Generals bullpen then shut down the powerful TCL defending champs with 5 scoreless innings. Trevor Lundgren (Northeastern JC) covered the 8th and 9th inning allowing just one hit and striking out 2. Tom Filip (Baylor) then thrilled the fans with 3 gutsy innings to pick up the win.
In the bottom of the 8th, The Generals tied the score at 3 all when James Hipp (Liberty) and Kenny Jackson (Texas A & M) walked. Brian Nephew (Univ Texas-Arlington) then loaded the bases with a single to left. King then lined a single to right scoring Hipp and Jackson.
In other Generals news, the coaching staff is pleased to announce that closer Zach Nuding who picked up the save on Thursday night, was selected in the Major League Baseball 2009 amatuer draft by the Pittsburg Pirates.
Zach was a 2008 graduate of Haltom High School (Haltom City, TX) where he was a first team all-district selection. The MLB signing deadline is August 15, at which point Zach will either sign with the Pirates or return to Weatherford College for his sophomore season. Zach is the son of Steve and Laura Nuding of Keller and Michell and Steve Edwardson of Fort Worth .
The Generals are now 5-1, and in first place in The Texas Collegiate League. The Coppell Copperheads come to town Saturday night to begin a two game series. Gametime at Riverside Park is 7:05.
