Michael Oros pitched 8+ innings to pick up the win on Thursday night
A night after the Victoria Generals were no-hit by the Acadiana Cane Cutters, the Generals got their revenge by shutting out the Cane Cutters by a final score of 2-0 in Lafayette on Thursday night.
The Generals received a dominant outing by starting pitcher Michael Oros who pitched into the ninth inning without allowing a run. Oros gave up just four hits on the night while striking out three batters to pick up his first win of the season.
Oros was lifted in the ninth after giving up back-to-back singles to start the inning. Generals closer Covey Morrow came on in relief and recorded three quick outs without allowing a hit to preserve the win for the Generals.
The Generals got on the board in the top of the first inning when Cody Abraham was hit by a pitch, stole second base, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly, and scored on a passed ball to make the score 1-0.
The score remained that way as Oros and Cane Cutters starting pitcher Troy Sutherland continued to put zeros on the scoreboard inning after inning.
The Generals added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when Chad Kruse walked to start the inning, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch to put the Generals up 2-0.
Covey Morrow picked up his sixth save of the season by working his way out of the jam in the ninth inning.
Chad Kruse led the Generals at the plate going 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored.
The Generals are now 13-18 on the season and 1-1 in the second-half. The Cane Cutters dropped to 16-13 overall and 1-1 in the second-half.
