Santiago Ruiz hit a single in the first inning to drive in 2 runs
The Victoria Generals jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning on Monday night against the East Texas Pump Jacks. In the inning, Jake Runte scored on a ground out by Trent Wagner, Freddy Villalobos scored on an RBI single by Kyle Arnsberg, and Michael McGraw and Arnsberg scored on a 2 run single by Santiago Ruiz.
Unfortunately, the Generals were then only able to scratch out one more run the rest of the game. After the Pump Jacks tied the score at 4-4 off of Generals starting pitcher Michael Oros, the Generals regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Wagner that scored Kevin Phillips.
Oros pitched six innings on the night, allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out two.
Sam Hansen allowed a run in the seventh inning as the Pump Jacks tied the game once again.
Phillip Garcia came on in the ninth for the Generals and recorded two quick outs. He then allowed a single and a hit by pitch before Kash Kalkowski drove a double down the left field line to give the Pump Jacks the 7-5 advantage.
The Generals fell to 7-10 on the season and the Pump Jacks improved to 9-8. The two teams will meet again on Tuesday night for game two of the series.
Tuesday night is Fastop Ozarka Free Ticket Night. Fans can stop by any of the six Fastop locations in Victoria and purchase an Ozarka product to receive a free ticket to Tuesday night's game.
