Kyle Arnsberg goes 1-for-4 on the night with 2 RBIs
The Victoria Generals offense was held at bay on Monday night by the Brazos Valley Bombers pitching staff. The Generals were only able to scratch out five singles on the night as they fell 8-3.
The Generals fell behind early as the Bombers were able to score three runs in the first inning off of starting pitcher Tyler Smith. Smith would go on to pitch five innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out six and walking six.
Bombers starting pitcher Michael Hilliard had a no-hitter going for the first five innings of the game before the Generals were able to get their offense going in the sixth. Cody Abraham, Chad Kruse, and Freddy Villalobos all had singles to load the bases. Trent Wagner then drew a walk for an RBI before Kyle Arnsberg delivered a two-run single to center field to cut the Bombers lead to 4-3.
The Bombers added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning off of Generals reliever Alex Jack to stretch their lead to 5-3. The Generals added three insurance runs in the eighth to make the final score 8-3
The Generals are now 5-6 on the season while the Bombers move to 3-8. The two teams will meet again for game two of the series on Tuesday night in Bryan.
