RE: Victoria Generals first franchise win
(Kilgore, TX) The newest franchise in the Texas Collegiate League, The Victoria Generals, picked up their first win Saturday night against The East Texas Pump Jacks by a 9-1 score.
Garret Steward (Lamar) started for the Generals by striking out the first 4 batters he faced. Michael Oros (San Jacinto) picked up the win with 3 innings of shutout ball.
The Generals got on the board first when Andy Russell (Lehigh) walked, advanced to second on a balk, went to third on a passed ball and scored on Andy Moore's groundout RBI. The Generals got the lead for good in the 5th when Moore singled, Mark Hudson ((Sam Houston State) followed with a bunt single. Russell scored on another passed ball. The Generals then put three runs across the plate in the 6th inning and 4 in the seventh.
Offensively Brendan McGaheran (Lehigh) had a single and a double, Mark Hudson had three singles and Andy Russel had a double.
Blake Payne (Seminole State) pitched a scoreless 7th for the Generals and Trevor Lundgren (Northeast JC) followed with a scoreless 8th and ninth inning.
The Generals, 1-1, are in action again Sunday and Monday versus The Coppell Copperheads.
