A day after the Generals were shutout by Matt Hicks and the Acadiana Cane Cutters, the Generals responded with an offensive outburst to earn a split in the two game series and handed the Cane Cutters their first loss of the season. The Generals cruised to a 10-2 win behind a stellar pitching performance by Cuero native Ross Goebel.
Goebel pitched seven innings in the ballgame, allowing only one run on four hits while striking out four batters. Yoakum native Covey Morrow pitched an inning of scoreless relief in the 8th inning, striking out two batters. Then, Bloomington native Phillip Garcia came on in the ninth and allowed one run as he finished off the Cane Cutters.
The Generals were led at the plate by Chad Kruse, Freddy Villalobos, and John Longoria who each had two hits apiece. Kyle Arnsberg and Kevin Phillips each added two RBIs on the night.
The Generals improve to 2-2 on the season and the Cane Cutters fell to 2-1.
The Generals will have Sunday off before traveling to East Texas on Monday to take on the Pump Jacks in a two game series.
