A power outage at Riverside Stadium caused the Victoria Generals opening day game of the 2011 season to be suspended in the top of the 5th inning on Wednesday night. In front of another great opening day crowd, the Generals were leading the game 4-1 when all of the power at the stadium went out. It is still unknown what caused the power outage.
The East Texas Pump Jacks got on the board in the top of the first, scoring one run off of Generals starting pitcher Michael Oros. Seth Granger had an RBI double to drive in Colt Bickerstaff who had walked earlier in the inning.
The Generals answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the first. Chad Kruse lead off with a single, stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by Freddy Villalobos. A wild pitch advanced Villalobos to second and Trent Wagner drove him in with an RBI single to left field.
After holding the Pump Jacks scoreless in the top of the second, the Generals tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the inning. Daniel Garcia reached base on a walk before Kruse picked up his second single of the ball game. Cody Abraham then delivered with a two run single to increase the Generals lead to 4-1.
Neither team scored in the third or fourth innings. The Pump Jacks had runners on first and second when the power went out at the stadium in the top of the fifth inning.
The Pump Jacks and Generals will resume the suspended game on Thursday afternoon starting at 5:00pm. There will be a 30 minute break after the completion of the game, and then the two teams will square off again in another nine inning contest.
It will be the Generals first Thirsty Thursday of the season. Draft beer will be $1 all evening long on the Buffalo Wild Wings Party Deck (during both games). So come out to Riverside Stadium and support your home town team!
