Phillip Garcia - Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi
The Victoria Generals continue to add local players to their 2011 summer roster as June 1, opening day for the 2011 season, draws near.
The Generals have announced the addition of former Bloomington High School star Phillip Garcia.
Garcia, a 5’10” right-handed pitcher, is currently in his junior season at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi where he serves as one of the Islanders go-to arms out of the bullpen.
Garcia currently has a record of 2-0 on the season to go along with three saves in 17 appearances. He has struck out 15 batters in 16.2 innings of work while carrying a 7.02 ERA.
“I’ve kept close tabs on Phillip the last two years and feel like he’s a great addition to our bullpen this summer,” commented Blake Koch, GM of the Victoria Generals. “Phillip throws a hard slider that is a tough matchup against right-handed hitters. He has a veteran’s presence on the mound and likes to be in the game in pressure situations.”
Garcia was named an all-district performer four straight seasons at Bloomington High School. He was also named first-team all-area as a senior.
The Generals open the 2011 season on June 1 at Riverside Stadium in Victoria. Game time is 7:05pm against the East Texas Pump Jacks.
The Generals will be looking to defend the 2010 TCL Championship which they won last season.
