The Victoria Generals defeated the McKinney Marshals 12-3 on Sunday night and secured the #1 seed for the 2010 TCL playoffs. It will be the second year in a row that the Generals have been the #1 seed in the post-season. The Generals will face the #4 seed Texas Tomcats in the opening round which will be a best-of-three series. Game one of the series will be played on Tuesday night in Weimar at 7:05pm at Veterans Memorial Park. It's a Free Ticket Tuesday at the game courtesy of M-G, Inc. and the Youens and Duchicela Clinic of Weimar. That means all fans that attend the game will get in for free. So be sure to head up to Weimar on Tuesday night to support the Generals and watch the opening game of the series. Game two of the series will be played in Victoria at Riverside Stadium starting at 7:05pm on Wednesday night. Game three will be played on Thursday night in Victoria if needed. The winner of the opening series will move on to the 2010 TCL Championship Series and face the winner of the other divisional round. That matchup will feature the #2 seed East Texas Pump Jacks and the #3 seed Brazos Valley Bombers.
The Generals got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on Sunday night, taking a 2-0 lead on and bases loaded walk by Andy Russell and a sacrifice fly by Trace Knoblauch. The Generals then exploded for six runs in the fourth inning. Jeramie Marked drew a bases loaded walk, Roman Madrid scored on a wild pitch, Andy Russell and Conner Mach delivered back-to-back RBI singles, Trace Knoblauch drew a bases loaded walk, and Torrey Jacoby capped the inning off with an RBI single. That gave the Generals an 8-0 lead. The Marshals scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth inning before the Generals added three more runs in the sixth inning on a bases loaded walk by Jeramie Marek and a two-run double off the bat of Lawton Langford. The Marshals added a two-run homerun by Bryson Myles in the top of the seventh to make the score 11-3. Conner Mach scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the frame to cap the scoring for the night as the Generals won by a final score of 12-3. Sam Walker earned the win on the mound for the Generals to improve to 2-2 on the season. Walker pitched seven innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out four. The Generals are now 30-15 on the season and the Marshals fell to 17-29.
The Generals will play their final game of the regular season on Monday night at home against the Texas Tomcats at Riverside Stadium. It will be a preview of the opening round matchup of the playoffs. Tomorrow night's game starts at 7:05pm. Victoria's own Chase Brown will be on hand to perform before the game during Happy Hour on the party deck from 6:00-7:00. Chase will also stick around and do another performance following the game as well.
