The Victoria Generals offense and pitching led the way as the Generals defeated the McKinney Marshals 10-1 on Friday night infront of a crowd of around 700 at Riverside Stadium in Victoria on Hometown Heroes Night. The Generals had a speical pregame ceremony honoring the community's service men and women and the Generals fed off of the big crowd all night long as momentum seemed to be on their side throughout the entire ballgame. Blake Payne was masterful on the mound for the Generals, allowing a single run in the top of the first inning and then posting six straight shutout innings. Payne gave up only five hits on the night while striking out four to pick up his third win of the season. The Generals offense broke things open in the bottom of the fifth inning to snap a 1-1 tie by pounding out five runs in the inning. The big blows of the inning were RBI doubles by Mark Hudson and Trace Knoblauch. The Generals also scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Marshals pitching staff struggled to find the strike zone. The Marshals staff walked seven General's batters in the game. The Generals were led at the plate by third baseman Brian Nephew who went 3-for-4 with with an RBI and two runs scored. The Generals improved to 24-13 on the season and improved their winning streak to four games as the Marshals fell to 16-23.
The Generals will host the Texas Tomcats on Saturday night as they look to keep the winning streak rolling. Saturday is Scouts Night at the Generals game. All scouts in uniform will get in for free. Also, the General's will be giving away a free t-shirt to the first 250 kids in attendance. Game time is 7:05pm.
