Generals Come From Behind for 4-2 Win Over River Monsters
July 18, 2023 – The Victoria Generals scored four unanswered runs to pick up a 4-2 victory against the Seguin River Monsters at “Smokey” Joe Williams Field. Galveston College LHP RJ Patrick pitched seven strong innings while New Mexico 1B Reed Spenrath knocked in two runs as Victoria improved to 24-14.
Patrick allowed two runs in seven frames on six hits and a walk while striking out three batters. Blinn College RHP Blane Zeplin was credited with the win for a hitless eighth inning and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi RHP Austin Dean earned the save with a scoreless ninth with a walk and two punchouts.
Spenrath tallied two runs batted in with an RBI fielder’s choice and RBI single, while UT-Arlington 1B Tyce Armstrong and Southeastern CF Cristopher Munoz collected two hits each. A&M-Corpus Christi 2B Drake Kerr drew a pair of walks and a double.
An RBI single in the second inning and an RBI groundout in the fourth gave the River Monsters a 2-0 advantage, but it was all Generals afterwards. Spenrath’s RBI fielder’s choice in the sixth cut the deficit in half, and his RBI single in the eighth tied the game. A Seguin throwing error in the same inning put Victoria on top before the Generals added an insurance run in the ninth on Armstrong’s RBI single.
After wrapping up a five-game series with the River Monsters, the Generals begin a four-game set with the Brazos Valley Bombers at home on Wednesday, July 19. First pitch at Riverside Stadium is set for 7:05 p.m. It’s Faith and Family Night, presented by Klean Corp International, with a 6 p.m. on-field concert by Clay Crockett and Nation of Believers.
