Generals Defeat River Monsters 4-3 to Snap Losing Streak
July 15, 2023 – The Victoria Generals picked up a 4-3 win over the Seguin River Monsters at Riverside Stadium to end a 3-game skid in the third matchup of a five-game series versus Seguin. Victoria scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to improve to 23-13 this summer and increase its home winning streak to 13 games.
Houston LHP Bryson Walker started on the mound, allowing two earned runs and one unearned run in six innings on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Weatherford College LHP Cody Morse was credited with the win after three scoreless frames with two punchouts.
Wharton County JC C Levi Castilleja went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored to command the Generals’ offense and increase his batting average 20 points to .289. Abilene Christian SS Riley Bender recorded an RBI and scored a run while Texas State DH Xavier Perez scored twice. All six of Victoria’s hits came from the 6-7-8-9 batters.
The River Monsters struck first in the opening frame on a fielding error by Walker and tacked on a run in the third with an RBI fielder’s choice. The Generals knotted the score in the bottom of the inning behind Bender’s RBI triple and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi LF Drake Kerr’s RBI groundout.
An RBI double put Seguin ahead in the fifth, albeit briefly as Victoria tied the game at 3-3 later in the inning with an RBI single by Castilleja. The San Antonio native plated the go-ahead run in the seventh inning with another RBI single.
The Generals return to action against the River Monsters at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 17, at Smokey Joe Williams Field in Seguin.
