June 30, 2023 – The Victoria Generals picked up their third consecutive win over the Acadiana Cane Cutters and sixth-straight victory overall with a 10-7 triumph at Riverside Stadium. Victoria improved to 16-10 this summer with the win, their eighth in their past 10 games.
Cornell SS Ryan Porter spurred the Generals’ offense with two home runs, his first two long balls of the season, and six runs batted in. McNeese State 2B Easton Dowell collected three hits to raise his batting average to .312, while A&M-Corpus Christi LF Drake Kerr and Wharton County JC C Levi Castilleja tallied two RBIs with averages over .300.
Abilene Christian RHP Holt Gibson got the starting nod for Victoria, surrendering four earned runs and three unearned runs in 2.2 innings on six hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Galveston College LHP RJ Patrick earned the win with 2.1 frames of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and one walk with a punchout. After Murray State College LHP Ryan Dugas gave up two hits and a walk in one inning, Houston LHP Bryson Walker pitched 1.2 scoreless innings with a walk and four strikeouts. Texas State RHP Taylor Seay got the save with two walks and a punchout in the final 1.1 innings.
Acadiana grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning behind a 3-run double, but the Generals responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame on a Castilleja RBI sacrifice fly and Porter’s 3-run blast over the left field fence. The Cane Cutters grabbed the lead right back with four runs in the third, as an error and a 3-run triple made it a 7-4 ballgame.
Victoria stormed back with three runs in fourth and fifth innings, with Castilleja’s RBI single getting the scoring going in the home half of the fourth. Porter quickly followed that up with his second home run of the night, this one a 2-run shot. In the fifth, Porter picked up his sixth RBI with a bases-loaded walk before Kerr’s 2-run single. Both pitching staffs kept the bats in check for the remaining innings.
The Generals and Cane Cutters will meet for the fourth-straight night on Saturday, July 1, at Riverside Stadium. It’s Free Ticket Night, presented by Zinc Resources, with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
