The Victoria Generals announced the updated version of their 2010 schedule for their sophomore campaign in the Texas Collegiate League today. The TCL had to rework the schedule to incorporate the Alexandria Aces, who joined the league earlier this month, into the mix. The General’s 56-game season will now open on Tuesday, June 1 at Riverside Stadium with the Generals playing host to the Texas Tomcats, another new team playing its inaugural season in the TCL. The Generals first home stand will continue on June 2 and 3 against the East Texas Pump Jacks.
This year’s expanded TCL schedule brings with it a split-season format, a first for the league. After the first half of the season, the league will crown a first-half division champion. All win-loss records are then reset to 0-0 for the second half of the season. The team with the league’s best record in the second half will be named the TCL’s second-half division champion.
The first- and second-half champions will be joined in the TCL playoffs by a pair of wild card teams. The postseason will again feature two rounds; winners of the best-of-three divisional round will meet in the three-game TCL Championship Series.
The Generals will wrap up the first-half with back-to-back home games against the Texas Tomcats and North Texas Copperheads on Friday, July 2 and Saturday, July 3. Marking the midpoint of the season will be the 2010 TCL All-Star Game. The All-Star Game is scheduled for Monday, July 5, and will be hosted by the Victoria Generals at Riverside Stadium. The showcase, which brings together the league’s best players, is eagerly anticipated by fans and major league scouts alike.
The Generals regular season schedule will conclude on Monday, August 9 at home against the Tomcats. The TCL playoffs are scheduled for August 10-16.
The Generals will be looking to unseat the defending champion Coppell Copperheads, who have switched their team name to the North Texas Copperheads due to a location change which will see them play their home games in McKinney at the Ballfields of Craig Ranch while also playing a select number of games at their former home in Coppell. The Copperheads defeated the Generals in the TCL Championship Series last year and have captured three of the six titles in TCL history.
