Generals Win Fourth Straight With 6-2 Win Over Cane Cutters
June 15, 2023 – The Victoria Generals built their longest win streak of the season with a 6-2 win over the Acadiana Cane Cutters at Riverside Stadium, their fourth consecutive victory. Victoria improved to a .500 winning percentage and 7-7 record with the triumph, while Acadiana dropped its third-straight and fell to 7-6.
Abilene Christian RHP Blaine Palmer earned the start on the mound and pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Houston-Victoria LHP Brady Parker logged two relief innings, giving up a run on two hits and a punchout en route to earning the win. Kansas Wesleyan RHP KT Gearlds closed out the final two scoreless frames, surrendering a walk and two strikeouts.
The Generals notched six hits, while the Cane Cutters picked up five and committed two errors. McNeese State 2B Easton Dowell and Abilene Christian 3B Riley Bender each tallied two hits, while Western Oklahoma State RF Derek Cerda had two runs batted in. Western Oklahoma State CF Cristopher Munoz added an RBI as well, and Weatherford College 1B Daymond Tockey scored a pair of runs.
Acadiana struck first with a solo home run in the top of the second before Victoria responded on Munoz’s bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the third. Cerda drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth to give the Generals a 2-1 lead, and the Cane Cutters tied it on an RBI fielder’s choice in the seventh. Victoria posted a four-spot in the home half of the inning to grab the lead with RBI singles by Bender and Cerda before Cerda later came across on a steal of home plate.
The Generals return to Riverside Stadium on Friday, June 16, to take on the Baton Rouge Rougarou, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. It’s Free Ticket Night, presented by Atzenhoffer Chevrolet, with free admission for all fans.
