Victoria Fall to Baton Rouge for Third Straight Game

June 10, 2023 – The Victoria Generals looked to get back to their winning ways at Riverside Park but unfortunately fell short with a final score of 10-8. Victoria’s pitching allowed 11 hits and hit six batters. In addition, the offense had seven hits but was unable to catch Baton Rouge.

Southwestern pitcher JJ Slack got the ball for Victoria going 2.1 innings, allowing five earned runs, three hits, four walks, and one strikeout. Following Slack was UHV pitcher Brady Parker who also pitched 2.1 innings. Parker allowed four earned runs, four hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Bossier Parish pitcher Jackson Schwank was then called from the bullpen and pitched for 2.1 innings. Schwank allowed four hits and walked one. To wrap up the night was Huston Tillotson pitcher Seve Medrano who went two innings with two strikeouts and one walk.

Victoria’s offense was quiet to begin the game after facing a six-point deficit going into the bottom of the third inning, but the bats showed up when two runs were scored. Baton Rouge would then add a run in the fourth inning, but Victoria would not go away without putting two more runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Going into the fifth inning, Baton Rouge would tact on three runs. It wasn’t until the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings where Victoria’s offense applied pressure to Baton Rouge, combining for four runs but was never able to take the lead throughout the night.

New Mexico State’s first baseman Reed Spenrath had a notable night at the plate where he had four at-bats, gathering up three hits, including a three-run homerun adding his total to six RBIs on the night. Western Oklahoma State shortstop Derek Cerda had a sacrifice fly to drive in one run. McNeese State second baseman Easton Dowell also helped the offense tonight with two doubles.

Unfortunately, after having a positive eighth inning and decreasing Baton Rouge’s lead Victoria could not get the bats going in the bottom of the ninth leaving a man on second base. Victoria falls to Baton Rouge 10-8.

Victoria will travel back to Louisiana where they will face off against the Acadiana Cane Cutters for the next two games on Sunday and Monday with first pitch at 7:00 pm. The next home game for Victoria will be June 15^th against the Acadiana Cane Cutters at Riverside stadium where it is a free ticket night presented by Victoria College with plenty of great giveaways.
