Monster Night for Victoria in 12-2 Win Over Seguin
June 6, 2023 – The Victoria Generals found their bats yet again as they faced off against the Seguin River Monsters at Riverside Stadium. The madness started in the bottom of the second inning with the Generals scoring two runs followed by a 6-run third inning, three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth inning.
Wharton County Junior College catcher Levi Castilleja led the Generals’ offense with a 4-for-5 night, driving in five runs. Galveston College left fielder RJ Patrick went 3-for-3 with two walks, two runs, and an RBI. New Mexico first baseman Reed Spenrath collected two hits and a walk while scoring three runs while Western Oklahoma State right fielder Derek Cerda had two RBIs, a hit, three walks, and three runs.
UHV pitcher Brady Parker started on the mound and allowed two runs in four innings with five hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Relieving Parker was A&M-Corpus Christi pitcher Kody Gibbs who had three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and five strikeouts. Bossier Parish pitcher Jackson Schwank then had one scoreless inning with one hit and one strikeout. Closing the game out was Huston-Tillotson pitcher Seve Medrano with a scoreless ninth inning.
Seguin struck first with one run in the first inning with an RBI single. Victoria responded in the bottom of the second on Castilleja’s 2-RBI single. The Generals then scored six runs in the third inning, led off by Abilene Christian third baseman Riley Bender’s bases-loaded walk. Cerda also drew a bases-loaded walk before Spenrath scored on a wild pitch. Castilleja laced another 2-RBI single. Eastern Oklahoma State center fielder Drake Kerr wrapped up the inning’s scoring with a sacrifice fly.
The River Monsters added a run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single, but the Generals added three runs in the bottom of the inning. Cerda and Castilleja both hit RBI singles, and Cornell second baseman Ryan Porter hit a RBI sacrifice fly. Patrick rounded out the scoring in the fifth inning with an RBI single.
Victoria is back in action on Wednesday, June 7, to take on the Baton Rouge Rougarou in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m at Pete Goldsby Field.
