March 29, 2023 – With the 2023 Texas Collegiate League just two months away, the Victoria Generals announce the signing of two players from the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley. Kade York and Jacob Sanchez will both suit up for the Generals as the season begins on May 31st. The Generals will be chasing their third championship as they take the field at Riverside Stadium for their home opener on June 4th. This will be the Generals 15th season in the Texas Collegiate League.
"Both Kade and Jacob will be bringing a ton of experience to the Generals this summer with both completing their junior season," commented Mike Yokum, Generals Vice President and General Manager. "These guys are both seeing the field every day with a ton of playing time and will be hitting their stride when reporting to play for the Generals."
Infielder Kade York, a junior from Mesa, Arizona, is in his first season with UTRGV and is off to a great start starting in all 23 games thus far this season, hitting .320 with 12 RBI’s, three doubles and an on-base percentage of .400 on the young season. York is a JUCO transfer from Yavapai College in Arizona where he has spent the past two seasons. York had a solid sophomore season batting .315 with 22 RBI’s, 39 runs scored, 24 walks and seven stolen bases.
Catcher Jacob Sanchez, a junior from San Juan, Texas, is in his third season at UTRGV. Sanchez has really started to heat up of late with an outstanding game this past weekend going 2 for 5 with a pair of home runs and six runs batted in on the day. Sanchez had a great sophomore year last season with UTRGV hitting .300 with 46 hits, eight doubles, a triple, five home runs, 32 runs scored and 16 walks.
"We have established a strong relationship with the coaching staff at UTRGV and it is always nice when we can scoop up some of their best players to suit up as Generals," commented Michael Oros, Generals Head Coach heading into his ninth season. "We are excited to have these guys and will probably see several more from UTRGV as we start the season."
The Victoria Generals will play 48 games with 24 of the games being played here in Victoria at Riverside Stadium. The Generals will open their season on the road as they head to Baton Rouge to take on the Rougarou and will return for their home opener at Riverside Stadium on Sunday, June 4th. This opener will be a Free Ticket Night presented by Texas Roadhouse. Everyone will be admitted free thanks to Texas Roadhouse.
