Generals Wins a Close Game In Extra Innings
July 20, 2022 – Generals are continuing their road stretch against the Brazos Valley Bombers in the second game of their two game series coming off a win from the first game of the series 8-1. Generals are looking to continue their hot second half of the season.
The Bombers offense strikes first in the bottom of the second. After the first two batters would get out, Brandon Bishop would get a single and advance on a wild pitch. He would score from a wild pitch and an error throw to third. Bombers take an early 1-0 lead.
The Generals offense would get their offense going in the top of the fourth after a solo home run from Chase Sanguinetti to tie the game at 1-1.
The pitching would dominate this game until the top of the seventh. Blake Bean would get a leadoff single and would steal second. The next batter, Cameron Nickens would hit a two run home run to give the Generals their first lead of the game.
The Bombers would strike back in the bottom of the seventh. Bishop would draw a leadoff walk and Kade Fletcher would reach on an error followed by a single from Vinny Samuell to load the bases for the Bombers. Garrison Weis would take the plate and would ground out, but Bishop and Fletcher would score on an aggressive baserunning. Jackson Cobb drew a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. Mike Adair would bat next and grounded out but Samuell would score giving the Bombers the lead back. Score after seven would be 4-3 Bombers.
In the top of the ninth, the Generals looked to extend the game down by one. Bean would be the first batter to get on base as he would get a full count walk. Nickens would take a bat next, and would hit a single advancing Bean to third. Malachi Lott would pinch hit for Bryce Jewell and would be intentionally walked to load the bases. Jackson Hardy would be next and would be hit by a pitch to bring home Bean to tie the game at four to extend the game.
The Bombers would go down in order in the bottom of the ninth making the game go into extra innings.
In the top of the tenth, Adam Becker would leadoff with the ghost runner on second and would hit a powerful two run homerun on the first pitch to give the Generals the lead. The offense continued to shine as Reed Spenrath would be hit by a pitch followed by back to back singles to load the bases. Samuel Benjamin would pinch run for Spenrath and would get the sacrifice fly from Adrian Minjares to go into the bottom of the tenth with a 7-4 lead for the Generals.
Bombers looking to get back into the game in the bottom of the tenth. The ghost runner, Cobb would be thrown out at third on an attempted steal. Adair would hit a double, and would be brought home on an RBI double from Bray Evans. Riley Bender would hit a ball to get another run, but Bender would be thrown out at third trying to get a triple to end the game. The Generals would win the game 7-6.
The Generals will continue their road stretch tomorrow night as they head to Baton Rouge for a two game series against the Rougarou before ending their road games on Saturday against the Bombers. Next home game will be on Tuesday night against the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Free Ticket Night presented by Sodalis Victoria Assisted Living.
