Generals Make Huge Comeback Win For Fourth Straight Victory
July 10, 2022 – Generals are finishing their four game home stand at Riverside Stadium. The Generals are looking for their fourth straight win as they start the second half hot. Generals are running their Bark at the Park promotion presented by Northside Ranch Pet & Garden Center.
The River Monsters offense starts strong against Michael Barta in the top of the first. Jimmy Deleon and Victor Jimenez both drew a walk where Jose Gutierrez would drive in both runs on a double. Offense continued to score as Rey Mendoza and Skylar Trevino brought in an RBI. Barta would get out the inning with back to back strikeouts to leave the top of the first scoring four runs.
The offense continued to score in the top of the second as Raul Lopez would get a leadoff single before an error throw would help him advance to third. Jacob Elizondo would hit a single in the next at bat to bring the runner home. After Jimenez hit a single, Mendoza would hit a two RBI triple and would be brought home from Trevino getting his second RBI in this game.
Generals made a pitching change in the top of the third bringing in JJ Slack ending Barta’s night at two innings of work with five earned runs, four strikeouts, two walks, and eleven hits allowed. The River Monsters would get a leadoff single from Elizondo to take advantage of the switch and of the result of two passed balls and an error throw to third, Elizondo would bring home the ninth run of the game for the RIver Monsters.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Generals would score their first runs of the game off Lalo Salinas. After the first two batters went out, Reed Spenrath and Cameron Nickens would hit back to back singles, two passed balls would help Spenrath get home and Nickens reaching third. Brandon Galindo would bring home the second run of the inning with a single to cut the lead down to seven.
Generals continued to score in the bottom of the fifth after Bryce Jewell would be hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. After Jewell steals second, Samuel Benjamin would hit an RBI double. Benjamin would steal third and would be brought home from a single from Malachi Lott. Blake Bean would follow up with a double getting Lott to third. Chase Sanguinetti would ground out but Lott would score the third run of the inning. The Generals would leave the inning making the game a four run deficit.
The River Monsters would make a pitching change to Trace Sanchez in the bottom of sixth ending Salinas night with five innings, five earned runs, seven hits allowed and four strikeouts. Generals take advantage of the pitching change as Jewell and Benjamin get back to back walks as Lott would hit a double to bring home Jewell. After a wild pitch, Benjamin would score and Lott advanced to third. After a walk to Bean, River Monsters changed pitchers again to Pablo Montante. Lott would score on a wild pitch from Montante. Generals would finish the inning with another three run inning to make it a one run game.
After giving up back to back walks to Nickens and Galindo to start the bottom of the seventh, the River Monsters made another pitching change to Dave Wilson. First pitch thrown was a wild pitch to advance the runners a base. After a walk that was a wild pitch, Nickens would score to tie the game for the Generals coming back from down nine. Jewell continued the scoring as he would hit a two RBI single to give the Generals their first lead of the game. Score at the end of the inning was 11-9.
Generals made a pitching change to Cash McNicholas to start the eighth, ending Slack’s night with five innings, four walks, three strikeouts, five hits allowed, and one earned run. McNicholas would come out hot striking out the order for the River Monsters.
Generals continued their hot offense to get insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth as Nickens would draw a two out walk and would score from an RBI double from Galindo. Thanks to an error throw to third, Galindo would score to draw two runs on one swing. Generals take a four run lead to the top of the ninth.
McNicholas looked to close the game and struck out the leadoff batter for his fourth straight strikeout. After a flyout from Raul Lopez, McNicholas would strike out Elizondo to end the game. Generals will win their fourth straight game 13-9 making the home stand record at a perfect 4-0 record.
The Generals will go back on the road for a five game road stretch starting tomorrow night lasting to Friday before their home game against the Bombers on Saturday for Strike Out Cancer Jersey Auction presented by Citizen and Free Ticket Night thanks to South Star Wealth Management.
