The Generals Sweep the Rougarou in a Two-Game Series
June 24, 2022- The Generals are coming off a big 12-6 win last night against the Baton Rouge Rougarou. The Rougarou came back to Riverside looking to get redemption off of their big loss last night while the Generals were looking to defend their home turf.
The Generals were looking to make a statement in this game to take the two-game series. Justin Barry-Smith of the Generals handed out two strikeouts to start the ball game. Shortly after, the Generals bats were looking alive, but the Rougarou brought in the first run of the game in the top of the second. That was only motivation for the Generals as they responded with some runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Isaiah Walker, the Generals shortstop, hit a 2 run RBI single to get the Generals started at the plate and give them the lead 2-1 early in the ball game.
Barry-Smith had himself a night on the mound as he handed the Rougarou a total of six strikeouts in four innings. Despite the strong defensive effort, the Rougarou were able to tie the ball game in the top of the fourth by a solo home run. Following that momentous home run, the Rougaru were not done as they put up an effort to have a different outcome than last night. In the top of the fifth, the Rougarou managed to bring in two more runs to extend their lead 2-4.
The Generals knew this ball game was far from over. Adam Becker, the third baseman for the Generals, responded from the Rougarou’s solo home run with one of his own to decrease the Rougarou lead. The Generals were not going to stop there as Pierre Seals, the second baseman, hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 4-4.
The Generals defense was holding strong and they were not done yet at the plate. The Generals had a huge seventh inning that helped them take control of this ball game. Walker got himself another RBI and shortly after, Samuel Benjamin, the Generals designated hitter, hit a 3 run RBI to extend their lead 8-4. With bases loaded and two outs, Samuel Tormos gets walked and Benjamin comes home to add another run to the Generals' extensive lead. The Generals were not going to stop there as two more runs were brought in on walks and the centerfielder Brandon Galindo hit a 3 run RBI triple to give the Generals an even bigger lead 13-4 as the Generals scored a total nine runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Despite the offensive effort by the Rougarou in the last two innings, it was not enough to come back as the Generals swept the Rougarou in the series with tonight’s win 13-4.
The Generals will have the weekend off and will be back at it on Monday at Riverside as they take on the Seguin River Monsters. First pitch will be thrown at 7:05. Following the game Monday, the Generals will hit the road and head on down to Louisiana for a three-game series against the Acadiana Cane Cutters.
