Generals Remain Hot Routing Cane Cutters June 28, 2022 – Generals head into Acadiana to begin a three game series with the Cane Cutters and scored early and often cruising to a 9-2 victory in game one of the series. The Generals rack up 13 hits on the night including a three hit night from newcomer Jackson Hardy (Angelo State University) who went 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored. Bats remained hot with strong pitching as the Generals notch their third straight victory.
Samuel Benjamin starting the scoring with a solo shot in the first as the Generals took the lead 1-0 heading to the bottom of the first. Starting pitcher Braylon Owens headed to the bottom of the first, stranding a runner on a single and took the 1-0 lead into the second inning. Samuel Tormos started things off in the second with a ground rule double, followed by a walk from Brandon Galindo with Hardy coming up to the plate. Hardy would get his first hit of the season with his first TCL at bat with a double, scoring Tormos as the Generals would take a 2-0 lead.
Generals would tack on a pair in the third inning with singles from Benjamin and Adam Becker, bringing Chase Sanguinetti to the plate. Sanguinetti would double, scoring Benjamin and Becker to run the score to 4-0 heading to the bottom of the third. Owens would give up a pair of singles but would leave them stranded as the Generals head to the fourth inning.
Cane Cutters would get things going after a lead-off walk and a two-run shot from a struggling Mason Zambo as the Cane Cutters would tighten the score to 4-2. Generals would battle right back with a run in the fifth as Becker would score on a wild pitch to push the lead to 5-2.
Generals would get three runs in the sixth innings to blow the game open on a Hardy walk, Isaiah Walker walk, Benjamin walk and a single from Becker, scoring Walker and Hardy. Sanguinetti would also single scoring Benjamin as the Generals ran the score to 8-2 as the Generals would never look back.
Strong pitching was the theme and incredible defensive from Generals catcher Angel Mendoza who picked off three Cane Cutter runners in key situations to limit their scoring to two runs. Owens, Patrick Dunn, JJ Slack and newcomer Parker Bigham all did a great job keeping the Cane Cutters off the board. Owens gets the win as the Generals finish the night by a final score of 9-2.
Generals back in action for Game two at Fabacher Field tomorrow night. Generals will wrap up this five game road trip with games in Baton Rouge and Seguin. Generals will host the TCL All-Star Game on Sunday, June 3rd with the TCL’s best coming to Riverside Stadium. It will be a Free Ticket Night presented by City Mortgage Group!
