Tapia Headlines Latest Signings

Generals Land Four from University of Texas-San Antonio

February 4, 2021 – With the 2021 Texas Collegiate League season less than four months away, the Victoria Generals begin announcing their recent signings as they battle for a championship in the Texas Collegiate League.  This week, the Generals have announced the addition of four players from the University of Texas-San Antonio (C-USA).  Infielder/outfielder Jonathan Tapia headlines the group, returning for his third season with the Generals. Infielder Austin Ochoa and right-handed pitchers Fischer Kingsbery and Kobe Jaramillo round out the group for the Generals as they open their 13th season in the Texas Collegiate League.

"UTSA has provided us with some top talent over the years and we are excited to have these players as we build our upcoming roster," commented Mike Yokum, Generals Vice President and General Manager. "Having Tapia back in our line-up for a third season is a great start and we look for him to be among the offensive leaders in the TCL once again."

Infielder/Outfielder Jonathan Tapia, a junior from San Antonio, TX, will look to split time at shortstop and outfield for the Generals this Summer. Tapia had an outstanding Covid shortened season in 2020 for the Generals appearing in 20 games,  hitting .313 with 21 hits, four doubles, 11 runs scored, seven RBI's, 13 walks and hit-by-pitch 12 times. Tapia led the TCL with an on-base percentage of .506 on the season.  Tapia was the Victoria Generals Player of the Year and was an All-TCL selection at shortstop for the 2020 season.

Infielder Austin Ochoa, a freshman from Refugio, TX, will take the field for the Generals this Summer. Ochoa led the Refugio Bobcats at quarterback to the 2A State Championship as a senior in 2019 and was also named State Championship Game Offensive MVP. Ochoa's junior season he lead the team hitting .417 with 12 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 28 RBI's and 18 stolen bases. Ochoa also got it done on the mound with a record of 7-0 with a 1.15 earned run average with 68 strikeouts in 42 innings pitched.

Right-handed pitcher Kobe Jaramillo, a freshman from Bishop, TX, will take the mound this summer for the Generals after a perfect 12-0 record in his final season at Bishop High School. Jaramillo earned Pitcher of the Year honors in District 31-3A in his final season for Bishop. Jaramillo was able to wrap up high school early in the fall and was able to join the UTSA Roadrunners early this past Spring.

Right-handed pitcher Fischer Kingsbery, a freshman from Leander, TX, will suit up for the Generals as they hit the field in late May. Kingsbery was off to an incredible start in his senior season at Rouse High School before Covid shut down their season. Kingsbery came out hot to start the season, winning his first three starts going 3-0 with 34 strikeouts and was noted as one of the top strikeout pitchers in the state of Texas. Kingsbery looks to bring his crafty array of pitches to the Generals as he competes against the top hitters in the TCL.

The Victoria Generals will play 48 games with 24 of the games being played here in Victoria at Riverside Stadium. The Generals schedule will be released very soon and can be found on our website at www.victoriagenerals.com.  Follow the Generals on Facebook and Twitter for further updates on the upcoming season.  Fans can buy season tickets and merchandise at the team store located at 1307-H East Airline Road, or by calling 361-485-9522.
